I know it's not Daily...you know it's not Daily...let's just say it's a catchy title and leave it at that eh?

Ok let me start by, again, apologising for not posting anything on Friday...we're hopefully going to be resuming normal service again this week as the conference I was doing all the work for has now gone out (thank god!) and happily, genius that I am, everything got done in time :) There was a particular little event that occured during this project that's happened to me a couple of times now and each time is more terrible than the last (and it's also the reason there was no post on Friday) and, if you'll permit me, I shall now explain it to you :)

I think we'll have to start by me explaining a little about Designery types and, specifically, our temperament...you see whilst arty people like me are unassailably great, amazing, sexy and all-around fantastic (modest too ;)) we do have our drawbacks too...you see it's sort of necessary to be creative, flamboyant, extroverted etc to do the job and that occasionally has a slight effect on little things like timekeeping (which is a concern for mere mortals obviously), organisation (organise things? me? shouldn't there be some peon to do that for me?) and, especially concerning *anything* you've produced yourself, a sometimes stunning absence of objectivity (the work we produce is like our children man!). So taking these interesting little facets of our personality into consideration, especially the objectivity one, can you imagine what it's like when some insufferable uneducated oik (a client then) decides to pervert the pure vision of astounding beauty that you've deigned to create for his grubby little company? Yes that's right, it tends to irk us somewhat.

Now *far* worse than that is when you hear the words that were uttered by the project leader on a recent job...I was doing a load of video and 3D bits for them and when it came to music they didn't have the budget to hire a musician to make a one off piece for the video, so we selected a bit of stock library music for them instead which, whilst it's not amazing, is pretty good to use in applications like this...but he didn't want that music...and he didn't want to pay for any...so he said "my mate's a 'musician' he can do something for it"...when a client says something like that the bottom drops out of your world, here you are working your arse off in a vain effort to make the paying customer look good and then there they are...seemingly honour bound to do *everything* in their power to sabotage your efforts (all clients do this for some reason? they come to you, a professional, asking advice about how they should present themselves...then completely ignore all advice and do whatever godawful, hackeyed old idea they had in their head anyway). *sigh* needless to say the 'music' (yes I am going to carry on being sarcastic with quotation marks here) was utterly unusable...it would seem that when he said "musician" he *actually* meant bloke with some sequencing software who has a penchant for mashing the keys on a keyboard at random...you know that episode of 'Friends' where Ross reckons he's a great musician and he plays embarrasingly awful noise? Well kinda like that but less professional. Still I suppose life would be dull without these little hiccups to keep us all entertained eh...sure we'd all be blissfully happy but it'd probably be very dull...probably...hhhhhmmmmmmm.
