No post yesterday as those of you who are paying attention will, no doubt, have noticed...why? Because I had to take the day off work...why? Because I hadn't slept for four days...why? BECAUSE IT'S TOO FUCKING HOT! Yes that's right TOO hot...the last few days are the reason I, generally, can't fucking stand the summertime...sure it's great and lovely if you're outside and flouncing about doing nice summery things...but let's face it when you're stuck in a fucking office that, even though it's air conditioned, is *still* swelteringly hot and you're trying to concentrate and get things done but can't because it's too hot to move, think, breathe, blink (not really...exaggerating slightly as usual)...too hot to do *anything* in fact other than sit there in a semi-comatose state staring blankly at your screen on the verge of unconsciousness feeling massively uncomfortable...yeah...great, isn't summertime wicked.
Even worse than the days though are the nights, you see when you're already a fairly bad insomniac (hiya) nightime is a thing you come to dread, sure for everyone else it's when they effortlessly drift into a restful slumber for 8 hours or so, eventually waking up feeling bright and refreshed and ready to take the world on...not so for us insomniacs, for us it's when we go and lie in a dark room all night desperately wanting to sleep but not being able to, eventually falling into a fitful semi-sleeping state about an hour before you've got to wake up and then being forced out of this not even slightly restful state by a piercing alarm which leaves you irritable, tired, unhappy and ready to greet the world with an air of shuffling somnambulence not too far removed from that of the featured creatures in many a movie by George A Romero. But in the summertime things change up a gear...now you've got to attempt rest in a small dark room that, no matter how many windows you open (which also leads to the *delightful* addition of the local insect community popping in to say hi and have a go at eating you alive) and no matter how many fans you have pointed at you, will not sink to a temperature lower than something you'd normally expect to find in a sauna...now the lucky folks who can actually sleep seem to just be able to do their vastly irritating thing of 'falling asleep as their head hits the pillow' irrespective of the volcanic temperature...but not me...no, I get to endure the usual insomnia nightmare coupled with the special treat of being hideously uncomfortable all night...oh joy...summer's just *great* isn't it?
I've had enough now, I shall be writing a VERY strongly worded letter to the powers that be regarding this heat thing...we live in Britain for christ's sake it's not supposed to be this hot...bring on the grey days, drizzly weather and comfortable living conditions that any true Brit really associates with our summers I say ;)
