In terms of busy eat-at-your-desk office lunches there are few things that can surpass the simple pleasures of the mighty crisp sandwich (except perhaps a chip-buttie...but it's debatable as to whether that's more of a tea time affair so we shall just dismiss that as a wild card and continue ;)), but there's more to the crisp sandwich than merely eating...the very task of creating said lunchtime extravaganza is a careful exercise in canny decision making, precise construction and cool disaster aversion! How so? Allow me to elucidate...what?...well, yes I *suppose* I could have just said "i'll tell you"...but that lacks style non?...what?...oh shush ;)
1 - Decision Making:
The obvious first step is the simple task of selecting the building blocks of your masterpiece...or is it simple? Sandwich selection is clearly down to person taste, simply pick your favourite sandwich and add crisps to make it better...but crisp selection is the tricky part, you want to select a flavour that will compliment, not clash, with your sandwich choice...texture is also important here, as is the 'normal or ridge-cut' decision (which, given that ridge-cut crisps normally curve, can add extra problems at the construction stage)...there's also the problem of over flavouring, if your selected choice of crisp is one of a more 'coated in chemical flavouring' variety you may have certain crisps that are *over* flavoured (a truly wince inducing thought given some of the possible flavours!) which can detract from the overall wise taste combination.
2 - Precise Construction:
So you've got your components carefully prepared, now it's time to get them together and eat!...but wait, how are you going to build your über-sandwich? Sure you *could* just go for a single layer of crisps, take the easy option out...but you've come this far, don't chicken out now man! So into the brave arena of multi-tiered construction we step...now this'll be piss easy if you've made a conservative choice (ready salted Walkers for example) as you're crisps will be relatively level enabling you to pile on anything up to 10 levels of crunchy goodness with relative ease...but if you've made a more manly choice (Flame Grilled Steak Mcoy's perhaps) then it's going to take steely determination and many abortive efforts to build that high. It's all worth it though when you pop the top layer on, press the sandwich together and there's that wonderful crunching sound as your carefully placed layers all compact into one another...be careful though! there's ample room for crisps to escape out the sides here, so crunch with caution!
3 - Cool Disaster Aversion:
You've made excellent decisions and shown architectural genius in the construction of your snackfood opus! All that's left to do now is eat yes?...well, no...you see whilst you have indeed been successful in creating a towering achievement of a sandwich...you've also created a monster that's perhaps a little precarious! So normal eating isn't an option! You must exercise caution during eating...keeping a firm grip and utilising all your digits to avoid spillage is the key here, do not, under any circumstances, relinquish control of this culinary beast for even a second...were you to place this majestic monstrosity down all control and pressure would be lost! Meaning that the whole wonderful concoction comes tumbling down like a house of cards...or perhaps like a big crisp sandwich ;)
Well there you have it...a truly exhaustive piece of research into the dizzying world of crisp sandwiches...I hope i've been of help ;)
